Travel
For those traveling from overseas, Denver International Airport (DEN) receives some overseas flights. Other major ports of entry to the United States with connections to Denver (DEN) are Dallas-Ft. Worth (DFW), Chicago (ORD), Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP), Houston (IAH), Los Angeles (LAX) and Atlanta (ATL). Other routings are possible with additional connections or fly and drive options.
Dog Transport Notice
Be aware that rules for carriage of dogs vary greatly among airlines, both domestic and international. Be sure to confirm all legs of your flight as to acceptability of pets on board or in cargo. Southwest Airlines now accepts pets of a size to fly in the cabin only for a fee of $75. Known airlines that do not accept pets include America West and US Air. That includes any flights operated by them, but listed as a codeshare flight for other carriers, such as United. While United typically accepts dogs, a United flight "operated by" US Air would not. Be attentive to flight "operators" when booking your reservations, and confirm with the airlines before ticketing. Be sure to have your agent notate on your flight record that you are travelling with one or more dogs, as most carriers have a limit of dogs permitted per flight.
For those traveling by automobile, be alert to cities and states along your travel route that have dog ordinances and state laws that may affect you. Denver area municipalities have special regulations related to specific breeds. Know your routes, know the law and be a responsible pet owner.
USDAA has received approval by the City of Commerce for its standard security plan for all competitors and their dogs while at the event. Because this event is promoted to the public and the general public could turn out in large numbers, USDAA will operate its standard security plan. Kenneling will be fenced with monitored access. Dogs must be under leash control (maximum 6-foot length) except when competing in the ring or exercising in designated warm-up areas. Contact the USDAA office for questions related to its security plan while at the show site.
Whether traveling by air or car, be aware of requirements for veterinary certificates and carry documents that verify current rabies vaccines and other inoculations.
